DeBoer and the Marlins

This afternoon, Peter DeBoer joined Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton in the FSN booth in the top of the fifth inning during this afternoon's game between the Marlins and the Braves. With the pre-season just around the corner, the Panthers are making their mark and looking to gain some long-overdue exposure.

A lot of what DeBoer said has already been brought up in various articles and from speaking with fans of the Kitchener Rangers who dropped by the Panthers' message boards, but there's still no harm in hearing him remind us again that he plans on icing a team that will utilize speed, play aggressive and challenge the opposition to match their level.

Among the topics brought up - filling the void at captain. In an answer that is in no way surprising, he didn't give an answer. Only stating that he will be selective in choosing his captain and alternates. Like everyone, he's just itching to get to camp and it's glaringly apparent -- and it's such a welcome enthusiasm to this team.

On September 10th, the Panthers are kicking off their "Countdown to Opening Night". While this wouldn't fall within those boundaries, it's an extra appearance and it's a smart move to get him out there. From a Panthers release:

"The Countdown to Opening Night consists of a variety
of community, promotional, radio and television appearances that will commence
on Sept. 10 and continue for 31 days leading up to the club’s home opener on
Oct. 11 against Atlanta at 7 p.m. Florida Panthers players, coaches, front
office executives and broadcasters all will take part in this initiative, as the
Panthers prepare their fans for the start of the 2008-09 hockey season.
"

One of the events they've already announced will be on September 13th as the Marlins host the Washington Nationals. Nathan Horton will throw out the first pitch before the ballgame, which starts around 7:10 PM.

The full list is expected to be released some time this week.
